Traffic-light scheduling on the grid

چکیده
This paper studies the problem of route scheduling under the telephone model of communication networks. Previous work in this model considered mostly the “broadcast” and “gossip” communication primitives. The approach studied here is that of devising simple, distributed universal schedules, that are efficient for wide families of routing instances, rather than attempting to solve individual instances separately. The paper concentrates on “traffic-fight” type schedules for route scheduling on the two-dimensional grid. In order to study the problem of scheduling given route instances, routes are classified according to the number of directions they use, and tight bounds are given on the time required for scheduling route instances in each class. For routes of length d or less, using only one direction, scheduling is shown to require d + O(1) time. For simple routes using only two or three directions, scheduling is shown to require 2d + 3 and 2d + 4 time, respectively. Finally, for arbitrary simple routes scheduling is shown to require 2d + O(Jd) time.

Data Grid is an infrastructure that controls huge amount of data files, and provides intensive computational resources across geographically distributed collaboration. The heterogeneity and geographic dispersion of grid resources and applications place some complex problems such as job scheduling. Most existing scheduling algorithms in Grids only focus on one kind of Grid jobs which can be data...

Grid Computing allows coordinated and controlled resource sharing and problem solving in multi-institutional, dynamic virtual organizations. Moreover, fault tolerance and task scheduling is an important issue for large scale computational grid because of its unreliable nature of grid resources. Commonly exploited techniques to realize fault tolerance is periodic Checkpointing that periodically ...
متن کاملGreen Wave: Latency and Capacity-Efficient Sleep Scheduling for Wireless Networks Technical Report
While scheduling the nodes in a wireless network to sleep periodically can save energy, it also incurs higher latency and lower throughput. We consider the problem of designing optimal sleep schedules in wireless networks, and show that finding sleep schedules that can minimize the latency over a given subset of source-destination pairs is NP-hard. We also derive a latency lower bound given by ...
متن کاملChannel Provisioning and Flow Scheduling in Grid Overlay Networks
Grid traffic characteristics are quite different from that of normal Internet traffic, as they impose more stringent constraints (such as packet delay and flow deadlines) on network resources. This paper explores differentiated channel provisioning in grid network, in order to schedule bulk data traffic. We propose a solution based on the two-phase routing scheme to provision the virtual channe...
